The ARD International Music Competition is among the oldest competitions of all. The declared purpose of the competition is to discover true personalities among the many young musicians that perform every year in Munich under tremendous peer pressure. The technical requirements are naturally very high, but the idea is not to find highly skilled automatons but young people who truly have something to say with their music, who feel that – despite all the hectic and competition – music lives from artistic collaboration. That is in fact the motto of the festival: chamber music unites.
