Two airports – Munich (1hr 30 min) and Innsbruck (45 min) - are both within easy reach. Schloss Elmau is 18 km from the famous ski resort Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the biggest town in the area. Trains leave from Munich or Innsbruck train stations about every hour to Garmisch or the small village of Klais, which is 5 km from Schloss Elmau.
Getting to Elmau by plane
From the Innsbruck Airport (Austria)
We will be happy to organize a shuttle from the airport, travel time about 45 minutes (80 €).
Or take a taxi to the main train station and continue by train to Klais.
From the Munich Airport
We will be happy to organize a shuttle from the airport, travel time about 90 minutes. You can also take a suburban train to the main train station in Munich, travel time about 40 minutes. From there, continue by train to Klais.
Getting to Elmau by train
From the Munich Main Train Station
The train to Klais leaves every hour from the Starnberg Wing (north side) of the train station. Travel time about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
From the Innsbruck Main Train Station (Austria)
Take the train to Mittenwald and continue on from there toward Klais. Travel time about 1 hour.

Getting to Elmau by car
From Munich
Take the A 95 highway to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and continue from there in the direction of Mittenwald/Innsbruck (Austria). After about 12 km, turn right at the village Klais, and cross the train tracks. After that, first turn right and then turn left when you reach a small chapel. This turns into the toll road that leads to Elmau. Travel time from the airport is about 1 1/2 hours, from Munich about 1 hour.
From Innsbruck (Austria)
Take the road to Zirl (Zirlerberg) and continue from there in the direction of Mittenwald/Garmisch-Partenkirchen. After you have passed through Mittenwald, you will come to the village of Klais. Turn left and cross the train tracks. After that, first turn right and then turn left when you reach a small chapel. This turns into the toll road that leads to Elmau. Total travel time about 45 minutes.
