Schloss Elmau is—and always has been—a cultural world all its own. While the estate’s world-class spas and majestic views of the Wetterstein Mountains would be reason enough for a getaway on their own, June brings a cultural program so dazzling that it can easily rival the Salzburg Festival or London’s West End. This month, the resort transforms its intimate concert halls into a haven for global music icons, profound philosophers, and political insiders. For the discerning traveler, this is the exclusive guide to an unforgettable cultural June at Schloss Elmau.

June 19: Hollywood Glamour Meets Masterclass Cello

It is undoubtedly one of the blockbuster highlights of the summer season: Movie icon Bill Murray takes the stage alongside world-renowned cellist Jan Vogler, pianist Vanessa Perez, and violinist Mira Wang.

In their collaborative project “New Worlds,” Bill Murray trades in the tongue-in-cheek humor of *Ghostbusters* or *Lost in Translation* for the profound role of a literary rhapsodist, reciting the cornerstones of American literature. He is accompanied by Jan Vogler, whose passionate, colorful cello playing provides the perfect counterbalance. It is a fascinating, genre-defying bridge between poetry and music, carried by Murray’s inimitable charm.

June 20: Behind the Scenes of Geopolitical Power

As early as the following evening, the resort will shift from bohemian poetry to the harsh realities of global statecraft. Former Federal Minister of the Interior and Defense Thomas de Maizière will be a guest.

In a candid, unfiltered conversation with host Dietmar Müller-Elmau, Thomas de Maizière—who steered Germany through some of the most significant crises in recent history—will dissect the pressing challenges of today’s political landscape. For political insiders, this is a rare opportunity to eavesdrop and hear from a man who has been on the front lines of European politics for decades.

June 21–28: Romance Week

To round out the month, Schloss Elmau presents the crown jewel of its annual program: an entire week dedicated to an era of longing, music, passion, and poetry. While the repertoire includes masterpieces by Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, and Brahms, the program holds a very special historical significance: This year marks the 150th anniversary of Richard Wagner’s Bayreuth Festival (founded in 1876). As a tribute, the valley will resound with the stirring, emotional depths of his famous Wesendonck Lieder. The week’s lineup reads like a “Who’s Who” of the classical music elite and is perfectly choreographed:

  • Opening Nights | Hanna-Elisabeth Müller (soprano): One of the most influential lyric sopranos of our time delivers crystal-clear, heart-wrenchingly emotional interpretations of Romantic art songs.

  • Midweek Spotlight | Belcea (String Quartet): Known worldwide as one of the most dynamic and precise string quartets of all time, the ensemble brings structural brilliance to Brahms's complex chamber music works.

  • The Grand Finale | Alexandra Dovgan, Leif Ove Andsnes & Grigory Sokolov (piano): Three generations of the piano’s elite. From the brilliant and exceptional talent of Dovgan, to the Nordic mastery of Andsnes, to the living legend Sokolov, whose sacred, deeply meditative playing is akin to a spiritual experience.
