The unity of breath and movement
The word Jivamukti is composed of Jiva, the soul, and Mukti, liberation. The objective is the liberation of the soul. The Jivamukti Yoga method, a dynamic form of Hatha Yoga, was developed in the 1980s by the Americans Sharon Gannon and David Life .
Course of a Jivamukti Yoga class
A Jivamukti Yoga class consists of a dynamic, changing flow of asanas. The intention is to provide practitioners with a complete, challenging (on many levels) practice, from the physical to the finer, mental layers of the body (koshas). Each class develops, based on a specific theme, on the traditional scriptures and emphasizes practice with a deeper intention. Singing meditation, and inspiring music are part of each class.
What effects does Jivamukti Yoga have on health?
Jivamukti Yoga is physically and intellectually challenging and stimulating yoga. The focus on the breath and the combination of the breath with the movement protect against injuries and naturally prevent sore muscles. The coordination between breath and movement not only gets you in great shape, but will also make you healthier, more resilient and balanced.
