Attentive Practice for Your Back, Neck and Shoulders

Hardly any other area reacts as sensitively to loads, stress and pressure like our shoulder girdle. This is because this area is streaked with a network of nerves, that react quickly under pressure, and the fascias, that surround our muscles, when stressed, contract, harden and sometimes even become matted. Our shoulders are then hard and tense, and we are limited in our movements.

An attentive, slow yoga practice with many gentle stretches and rhythmic movements help us make our fascias softer and open, so that our muscles can relax again. The breathing exercises loosen tensions in our mind and soul, so that we can act longer against the stress and tensions.

“In an age of acceleration, nothing is so exhilarating as slowing down; In a time of distraction, nothing is so luxurious as paying attention; In a world of constant movement, nothing is so urgent as finding stillness.” These words by author Pico Iyer reflect the essence of my offerings in Yoga Shanti & Yin Yoga. Yin Yoga is a quiet, contemplative practice based on ancient Daoist teachings. Poses are held for 5-10 minutes, using passive traction & gravity, to target the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, tendons, bones, and joints. Yin Yoga improves range of motion and health of deep tissues and joints, whereas Yang Yoga is any dynamic practice that develops muscular strength and stamina by using repetition and movement. Both types of practices are important for balanced mind-body health and wellness.Yoga Shanti: Shanti means peace: Yoga Shanti is a restorative yoga practice, in which you hold four or five poses, for a long time. Each pose is fully supported with props, combined with breathwork, hands-on healing and guided meditation techniques, to allow for total relaxation. This is a therapeutic, gentle & effective practice for bringing the mind-body into balance. It stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system into its “rest-and-digest” response and away from our “fight or flight” sympathetic nervous system that are bodies are more often stressed into. It is the perfect way to complete your active day of adventures in the nature surrounding Schloss Elmau.

The day begins with a meditation session, followed by a yoga class for all. In the afternoon, you can relax during a Yin Yoga class. Lectures and wellness treatments round off the days with the yoga instructor of the German national football team.
