Ohad Naharin is a choreographer and the creator of the Gaga movement language. Born in 1952 in Mizra, Israel, he began his dance career with Batsheva in 1974 and made his choreographic debut in New York in 1980. In 1990, Naharin was appointed Artistic Director of Batsheva Dance Company and established its junior division, the Batsheva Ensemble. He has created over thirty works for both companies and set pieces on other companies including Nederlands Dans Theater, the Paris Opera Ballet, and Les Grand Ballets Canadiens de Montréal. In addition to his stagework, Naharin developed Gaga, the innovative movement research and daily training of Batsheva’s dancers that has spread globally among both dancers and non-dancers. After almost thirty years of leading Batsheva, Naharin stepped down as Artistic Director in 2018, though he continues to serve as House Choreographer. Batsheva will also continue to be the home of Ohad’s research, development, and teaching of Gaga. A citizen of both Israel and the United States, Naharin currently lives in Israel with his wife, dancer and costume designer Eri Nakamura, and their two children, Noga and Asa.

Saar was born on a farm in Israel to an artistic family and danced until the age of 18. In 1998 he created his first work as an independent choreographer. In 2001, Saar established LeeSaar The Company with Lee Sher, relocating to NYC in 2004. The company was commissioned to create full evening dance programs until 2016 and toured internationally. Saar has been the manager of Gaga in the USA since 2012 and was appointed artistic director of Gaga in 2018. “Gaga is the way I turn all of me on. It’s about moving joyfully in my expanding range. I can surrender and accept my weaknesses and limitations, and find ways to change on a daily basis. Gaga is my lightness in heavy dark moments, it keeps me hopeful and silly and healthy.”

Yaara was born in Jerusalem in 1984 and began dancing ballet and modern dance at the age of 6
As a teenager, she danced with the Hora Jerusalem group and later danced professionally in the dance department at Harel Hig School in Mevaseret Zion.
At 18, she joined the Batsheva Ensemble as a young dancer and grew to become a member of the company under the artistic direction of Ohad Naharin. During her years with Batsheva, she performed choreographies by Ohad Naharin and Sharon Eyal. She later also served as the rehearsal director of the Batsheva Ensemble.
Yaara has been a certified Gaga teacher since 2006 and has been teaching Gaga classes and workshops in Israel and around the world. Alongside teaching Gaga, Yaara studied and developed in the field of alternative medicine and is now a practitioner of Chinese and Japanese medicine, specializing in acupuncture and herbal medicine.
“For me, Gaga is a time where I care for my body and mind. A time where I nourish my body with healing movement, refine my abilities, soften what has become rigid, and connect with the creativity, sensations, and flow within me.”
