Schloss Elmau was built from 1914-1916 by the philosopher and bestselling author Dr. Johannes Mueller as a retreat for artists and his readers. The building was destroyed by a major fire in 2005 and rebuilt and expanded as a Luxury Spa & Cultural Hideaway and member of the Leadings Hotels of the World in 2007.
All deluxe rooms, junior suites and suites are located in the south and West Wing. Most rooms have floor to ceiling windows, balconies and offer breathtaking views of the lofty mountains in the south.
