The Wild Swimming Experience

Experience the wild swimming in many crystal-clear mountain lakes in the surroundings or swimming in warm water and fresh air in one of our spacious outdoor infinity lap pools, all heated sustainably with wood chips even in winter. You can walk, run or bike 3km along the rushing Ferchenbach creek to the idyllic Ferchensee lake. The 9km trail to and around the lake is also perfect for a morning and evening run or power walk.

Lake Ferchensee 

3 km (2 miles) from Schloss Elmau

A 3 km trail along the rushing Ferchenbach creek takes you to the crystal-clear Lake Ferchensee, which is perfect for swimming. The 9 km trail to and around the lake and back to the hotel is perfect for a morning power walk or run. You may continue for another 2 km to get to Lake Lautersee, or 3 km to the village of Mittenwald.

Lake Lautersee

6 km (3.7 miles) from Schloss Elmau

Exquisitely situated natural bathing lake on the way to Mittenwald with three inns and a lido (bathing beach. Lake Lautersee is at its most beautiful in the early morning hours.

Lake Geroldsee

7 km (4.35 miles) from Schloss Elmau

In the nature preserve, near the German Alpine Road, a dirt road leads to this beautiful moor lake. Geroldsee is one of the lakes that warm up the quickest in early summer.

Lake Barmsee

A jewel in the hummocky meadows of the Werdenfelser Land, with a small bathing area on its northwest shore. A walk around the lake is an easy hike for the whole family.

Lake Walchensee

"The Caribbean of the Alps" -- This turquoise-green lake is one of Germany's deepest and also largest alpine lakes. Recommended: Cycle to and around the lake.

Lake Eibsee

Located southwest of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, below the Zugspitze, the highest mountain of the German Alps. Perfect for swimming, rowing, kayaking, and stand-up paddling
